This is a very old black glass (very dark green) wine bottle with seal, probably late 18th Century. Given its age of over 200 years old! it is in remarkably good condition and has a wonderful shine all over and I can see no internal cracks or chips. Unfortunately, as it is clearly visible from the pictures, sometime in history part of the top of the bottle has been cracked off. I am told this is called the string rim which was applied seperately in manufacture. If displayed this is at the back and probably would not detract greatly from the overall view.
If held up to the light there are small bubbles visible in the glass some very near the surface.
The base is deeply indented and has very slight wear marks possibly from standing on stone floor in cellar.
The bottle is quite squat, approx 8.5 inches high and approx 4 inches across the base.
The seal, showing an arm holding a scimitar sword with the initials G B, is of George Bickford of an old family of North Devon. I believe these bottles are quite rare and hard to find in this condition and I would think this one would interest a serious collector.
In view of its age, history, condition and rarity there is a sensible reserve on this item. I will ship worldwide and will keep postage and insurance sensible.
Thanks for looking. Good luck and happy bidding.
