A quite wonderful little money box dating from around 1880 / 1900, late Victorian in period.The outside is wrapped in wonderfully glossy cognac coloured crocodile or alligator skin; highly decorative and very tactile.The interior reveals the black leather interior with a lidded double compartment; one side for " Gold " and the other side for " Silver ". The lid interior retains it's original vibrant jewel toned silk lining with a pocket for " Notes " which is printed to the front of the pocket but fairly faded.The original hinges are in good working order as is the lock and yes!, it has a working key. Perfect for the gentleman's bedside when emptying pockets at night ... and could obviously make a fabulous jewelry box for either a lady or Gentleman.Excellent condition, measuring 6" x 4 1/2" x 2 3/4" to top of domed lid.
