This is a one ounce bottle of Powdered Extract Cotton Root Bark (otherwise known as Gossypium Herbaceum or Levant Cotton). It is a species of cotton native to the semi-arid regions of sub-Saharan Africa and Arabia where it still grows in the wild as a perennial shrub. It was first known to be cultivated in China about 600 AD. Among its other medicinal purposes, primarily an oxytocic, it was often discretely and confidentially prescribed as an abortifacient (a substance that induces abortion).
The bottle stands 3.5" and was manufactured in Indianapolis by Eli Lilly & Co. and hit the market in 1919. The bottle and its two labels are in excellent condition; however, the cork (which is original) has been split and chipped.

Please Note: On some items we don't require insurance; however, we recommend you insure every purchase - be it from us or any other seller.
Our goal is to ship within 24-48 hours; however, depending on circumstances, it may take up to 5-7 days from receipt of confirmed payment. If you need it shipped sooner, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate.
Most of our items are vintage, and as such are AS-IS, so you must therefore expect a degree of wear due to age and/or usage. We will take as many pictures as you need to ensure you are pleased upon receiving your item.
All sales are final, so please make sure your questions are answered to your satisfaction before you purchase.
Although our first love is antiques, we do offer many non-vintage items such as genuine art and unique collectables. As private collectors ourselves, we are constantly on the lookout for historical oddities, authentic artwork or anything unique and/or eclectic. If you are looking for the unusual but can't find it, feel free to contact us as we probably have it and would be willing to sell so we can make room in our home to display some new treasure!
If you have some questions or would like any additional photos, we will do what we can to give you as many details as needed to help you make your decision. Feel free to e-mail us at: gypsyslair@comcast.net
