Very good condition antique coffee grinder; This coffe grinder has a adjustable burr for setting the grind of the coffee; coarse to fine. It is made of cast Iron with the wood crank handle. The cross handle on the back is for adjusting the grind.
A brass metal tag that says: "Manufactured by GEO W.M. VanderCrift Guilford, Conn." The machine has letters cast into the body that says: "Patented May 17, 1870. by A.J.&GEO. W.M.Vandecrift"
This item is in excellent condition, the machine splits in half with the turn of a wing nut; I presume to clean the burrs and grinding mechanism. I would think this item is completely useable if one wanted to grind coffee with it. I have not tried it though.
As this item has no present day safety requirements I will not be responsible if you stick your finger in it and began grinding, thus harming your finger.
I know very little about these sort of items so I am selling it AS IS. If you are a collector of these sort of things I know you won't be dissapointed .
