A FINE, ORIGINAL ANTIQUE MAP OF

Equatorial Africa

 

Provenance Hand Reference Atlas of the World, Edited by J.G. Bartholomew (First Edition)
Published London: John Walker & Co. Ltd. Farringdon House, Warwick Lane, E.C.  1888. These maps are guaranteed to be 120 years old. I removed from the source atlas myself.
Cartographer J.G. Bartholomew. John Bartholomew & Co., Edinburgh is displayed in very small font in the bottom right corner of each map.
Size / Format Map: 19.7 cm x 15.8 cm (7.75" x 6.25"). Sheet: 21.6 cm x 18 cm (8.5" x 7.1"). The Maps are printed on heavy paper and have a single fold down the centre.
Condition Very good. The maps are bright and crisp. There is only very slight age-toning to the extreme margins. The maps are clean and free of foxing, tears, or other compromises.

 

Remarks

This little atlas lives up to its name -- As a book, it measures only 18 cm x 12 cm; however, it is packed with more than 80 double-paged (18cm x 24 cm) full-color map plates, and more than 100 smaller maps.

It covers the world in comparable detail to a large desk atlas and it maintains the quality and exactness the Bartholomew Mapmaking Company is known and respected for.

These little maps look great framed and hung together in groups. A cheap and easy way to achieve this is to buy 99-cent made-in-China clip frames (8" x 10"), pre-cut framing mats with an 8" x 6.5" opening, cut a piece of light cardboard (acid-free) backing and snap it all together. You'll have an inexpensive but sharp and stylish framed map to hang. Groups of three or four together look great.
