Description:
An excellent cartoon, print on artist's paper dated 1889 and framed - approx 16 X 19 inches (40.64 X 48.26cm).

This is an excellent American School print dating from the Victorian period.
The cartoon depicts a scene from a dog fight titled "De Brack Dog Wins". The caricature depicts a delighted group of men smiling and throwing their hats in the air as their dog is triumphant over the oppositions white dog. Not too politically correct these days, however, a good piece of social history by the popular publishers "Currier and Ives - New York". A coloured lithograph from the late 19th Century.

Currier and Ives was a successful American printmaking firm headed by Nathaniel Currier (1813–1888) and James Merritt Ives (1824 -1895). Based in New York City from 1834-1907, the prolific firm produced prints from paintings by fine artists as black and white lithographs that were hand colored.

Framing:
Contemporary plain moulded Pine. Finish: Natural.
Condition:
The print has discoloured and has several marks, possibly old water marks (see photos), however this all adds to the character and authenticity of this original print. The frame has a few marks and abrasions, consistent with age.
