Greek ~ Magna Graecia Middle 4th Century BC Xenon Ware Trefoil Oinochoe
This elegant vessel features a footed base, ovate body with a square shoulder, tall neck with a trefoil flared rim and a tall elegant handle.
Characteristic of Xenon Ware this Oinochoe features hand painted red decoration over the black glaze. The hand painting consists of a radiating tongue pattern on shoulder, large laurel leaf and berry and a square at the back with an eight-point star. The bottom of the foot is the reserved color of the terracotta with a subtle red wash.
