The original Alien Gents "Special" has gained a phenomenal reputation throughout the UK for being a superb electric bicycle but at an affordable price.
Now, and I must admit that I'm very proud to say this, comes the Gents Special II which builds upon the original but with a significant number of enhancements.
Ad astra as they say!
The main improvements are to the frame itself where the quality of the welding is better, the new "Chromalloy" paint finish is just superb and the photos really don't do it justice. When we uncrated the first frame I couldn't believe that they had done exactly what I asked for!
The motor is also the lastest from Suzhou Bafang, being the uprated QSWXB2 8Fun, with better freewheeling and noise reduction. Although there are also improvements to cable routing making the overall look of the bike much neater, the biggest improvement is, of course, the new integrated controller box.
Sitting just below the seat and attached to the rack, the battery pack now slides into this and the battery management system and main power contacts are made directly to the controller. It removes the need for the old triangular bag to house the controller and wiring and significantly and, in one stroke, redefines the looks of the bike. Sling one of the new Alien integrated pannier bag sets over the improved rack and there's no sign that you're riding a battery powered bike at all......
The new 36 Volt 10Ah Lithium Ion Battery Pack now incorporates the rear LED light with a six LED front light providing plenty of illumination! Controller used is a US spec one.....
This will certainly help those unfortunate enough to have problems with their back or knees or indeed those who (like me!) don't like pedalling at all. You will be glad to hear that the bike can still be used on the throttle from a standstill so, effectively, you're riding an electric motorcycle.
The Gents Special is designed specifically to suit adults who are looking for a bike for a height range from 5'5" to 6'4" or thereabouts. Please note that the bike will arrive with a sprung saddle post which might prove to be too high for some riders. You can though easily replace this with a standard, non-sprung, post if you need to - available from all bicycle dealers.
Despite all the enhancements I hope that you appreciate that I've maintained the price the same as the previous model. The pound is now slightly better against the dollar and I'm using that to offset the addiitonal cost of the new motor, controller box and rack etc.
However, I'm not like the guys who sell the occasional standard Chinese bike at £1,200 or so and I depend upon volume to make any money so....please get buying now!!
