Description

Nice 10x8 inch (250x200mm)  photo printed up using the latest technology from the original 35mm negative of the Alexander Special, beleived to be a flathead Ford V8 powered car(possibly supercharged) driven by WRL Thorne. This shot is from the obscure Howcleugh speed trial in Scotland on June 25 1938 which Thorne won overall beating  the same car driven by his friend G F Simpson. The MG K3 of Weir was 3rd and the BMW 328 of David H Murray 4th. We have photos of these other cars on eBay at the moment (see our eBay shop)

Howcleugh is a little known venue now partly buried under a motorway embankment but there was a plan in the 1930s to build a proper road racing circuit on the site. Sadly it seems to have been finished off by the war.

Leslie Thorne was an accountant from Greenock who after the war raced for Ecurie Ecosse in the British GP of 1954 in an A Type Connaught finishing 14th.

This is one of many motor racing photos we offer in our eBay shop dating from 1900s to date. All are printed in a commercial photo lab and not by inkjet.

We accept PAYPAL also Visa and Mastercard, Solo, Switch,Maestro,Electron & Delta cards, , cheques in British pounds etc. We will send full payment details at the end of the auction.
