Agapanthus Africanus,African Blue Lily,Lily Of The Nile.

Agapanthus Africanus or African Blue Lily is a evergreen plant, which are native of South Africa and belong to the Lily family and are grown for their exotic blue flowers. The fleshy rhizomes of these plants spread over the soil's surface and support a short, more or less tuberous rootstock.

Agapanthus, produce clumps of long, shiny, strap-like leaves, which look attractive even when the plant isn't in bloom. Flowering stems, reaching 2 to 6 feet in height, are topped with clusters of pretty, dark blue flowers from late spring to early autumn.

Each flower resembles the flowers of a lily. African Lilies are suitable for growing in the garden, in containers, and as houseplants. They flower better when their roots are rather crowded in a container. The flowers of these plants can be cut for use indoors.

The dried seed heads also look very actractive in arrangements.

Care

The plants are easy to grow in well-drained/light, moist soil and their long period of bloom make them an ideal choice for planters. Plants are hardy and will withstand a moderate frost but in very cold areas added protection with a deep mulch of straw is recommended to help ensure that damage is kept to a minimum.

The plants on sale are ex 9cm pot.
