This item is a must to help clear up that birds nest of cables centred around your onboard NMEA wiring that may have accumilated over time as new devices have been hung onto your poor old GPS's NMEA Data output lines.... By choosing to purchase and install the ACTISENSE (TM) NMEA Buffer unit you can easily rewire and tidy up those wires and also ensure that you do not overload the Data output of your GPS and possibly damage the I/O port or degrade and corrupt the NMEA signal. The data port on your GPS is designed to only supply so much current to the listening devices like VHF DSC, Plotter, Autopilot, PC etc and if too much current is demanded by the devices connected directly to a GPS then there's a chance it could blow! Coupled with this by using the NMEA Buffer you can freely connect devices by using the 4 NMEA and 2 RS232 ports which each in turn can each feed numerous devices and keep you GPS happily isolated from your other connected equipment. The unit requires a power supply of between 12 to 24volts and the main circuit board in mounted in a tough polycarbonate case with 5 glands for cable access.
