The origins of Art Nouveau are found in the resistance of William Morris to the cluttered compositions and the revival tendencies of the Victorian era and his theoretical approaches that helped initiate the Arts and crafts movement. Art Nouveau also known as Jugendstil, became an international movement and style of art, architecture and applied art—especially the decorative arts—which peaked in popularity at the turn of the 20th century. It is characterized by beautiful organic, especially floral and other plant-inspired motifs, as well as highly-stylized, flowing curvilinear forms.

Exponents of Art Nouveau decorative arts emphasized and promoted the importance of design itself as applied not only to architecture but to everyday objects from pottery, glassware and furniture to jewelery, wallpaper and book covers.

Collected together on CD for the first time are 14 design textbooks from this period. Ranging in date of publication from 1894 to 1920, all are scans of the originals so you will be reading each book exactly as intended.

ABOUT THE CD

You will receive 1 x data cd containing all of the material listed here. The books are in pdf format which means that you will need to have Adobe Reader installed on your computer to read them. If you don't have this, you can download it FREE from www.adobe.com . The fonts are 'True Type' and should be compatible with any operating system. I can provide instructions on request, on how to install the fonts to your computer if you are unsure. The clipart images are in TIFF format and can be used in Paint, Word  or any DTP / Graphics / Image editing software.
