FANTASTIC ART DECO 1930'S STERLING SILVER & BAKELITE FIGURAL NOVELTY TELEPHONE BABY RATTLE

This is a delightful and unique American STERLING SILVER and BAKELITE Baby's telephone, complete with the Bakelite base, which is very rarely seen, usually lost or broken!

The receiver is solid Sterling Silver, based on a classical dumbbell rattle, but in this case a perfect MINIATURE TELEPHONE receiver, in scale with a Baby caller! And it rattles, of course!

Just as a miniature object, it is absolutely charming! One sees interesting figural rattles, from Victorian to later, Edwardian and reproduction ones, but I have to say, THIS ONE BEATS ANY OF THEM IN THE NOVELTY FACTOR AND INNOVATION, A REAL 20TH CENTURY DESIGN CLASSIC!!! Just think of the much later baby telephone toys, the Fisher Price ringing, buzzing and flashing toddler toys, well, this is how it was done in the 20's-30's, WITH STYLE!!!

Both the silver rattle and bakelite base are in excellent condition, with NO damage, no scratches or dents!

MEASUREMENTS:

BAKELITE BASE: 3 1/8" (8cm) long, 2 1/8" (5.5cm wide), 2" (5.2cm) tall without receiver,

STERLING 'DUMBBELL' RECEIVER: 3 3/4" (9.5cm) long, 1 1/8" (2.8cm) wide, 1 1/2" (3.8cm) tall,

TOGETHER they are 2 3/8" or 6cm tall.

This baby rattle is just so special, superb, stylish 1930's Deco design, and would appeal to collectors of Art Deco, Bakelite, Baby Rattles, Vintage Toys, Telephone collectors, Doll and Teddy Bear collectors, since it looks very sweet on display, and is a charming and unusual miniature.

It would also make a lovely Christening Gift, my daughter had a silver dumbbell as a tiny baby, and she was absolutely fascinated with it, loved holding it, because of the feel of it, liked the novelty of touching 'cold' metal, the tinkling sound, etc, (she was supervised when playing with it, of course!...)
