In excellent condition, having original brass hinges and locking hook which are all in good order, with the lid closing firmly. Excellent quality mortice/dovetail joints. The grain of the wood shows through very well with just the odd minor imperfection that always comes with age, although nothing of detriment.

Interior base shows the outline of where three wooden blocks would have been located, to hold in place a scientific instrument, most probably a sextant or compass.
