I've never seen anything quite like this beautiful little wooden tray tray which appears to have a paper mache type finish - but also a somewhat metallic hand painted design that presents as inlay in a geometric pattern reminiscent of the ballooning days gone by. Despite it's age it has only three very small chips to the top edge  as shown in the close up photo's and these neither impact to design or beauty of this terrific old piece. Perfect as a coin tray on a man's dresser or desk, this decorative piece is really too pretty to use. It has two bands of gold gilding trim around it's inside fram and is numbered 1108/6 on the back as shown. It appears this number may have had a correction below at time of production. This terrific little tray measures 4 1/4 inches long by 3 1/2 inches wide by 3/4 inches deep. I wish I knew more about the specific age and production of a piece like this as it may be more Victorian than early 20th Century... I simply know it's a wonderful little tray and will be a real find to the collector of wooden and paper mache trays or vanity items.
