Offered with NO RESERVE and our usual low start price, is this  lovely 8 1/4 inch Dessert plate, produced in quality ironstone china by Ashworth's (Ashworth took over production of Masons Ironstone in 1860) and decorated in an Orient inspired japan pattern with a water lily in the centre.

As with several Ashworth's designs, this design was produced earlier (c1813) by Hicks & Meigh and a colour picture in this pattern is illustrated in Geoffrey Godden's GUIDE TO IRONSTONE page 45.

Apart from the underglaze blue, the rest of the pattern has been hand painted over the glaze in a colourful iron 'red', green, pink and rich guilding.

MEASUREMENTS   (go by measurements rather than pictures as items sometimes look larger than they actually are) It measures approximately 8 1/4 inches (21cms) in diameter.

CONDITION  IS GOOD but not quite perfect  (more pictures below). There is a shallow chip on the BACK of the rim (not visible from the front), wear to the gilt (mainly in the centre where it has worn away) and small scratches and scuffs to the overglaze decoration. All in all, a GOOD HONEST PIECE which has been used, but DISPLAYS BEAUTIFULLY.

 FACTORY MARKS  The base bears the blue Masons Ironstone mark and there is also an impressed mark stating ASHWORTH REAL IRONSTONE CHINA and impressed numbers 11/89 or 11/39.
