Up for bid is an aqua cork top medicine/morphine bottle from the 1880's era, it was hand blown in a mold with a hand finished rolled lip. This attic fresh hard narcotic sedative bottle is in super condition containing 65 mg of MORPHINE per ounce and given to babies and children for teething pain, general comfort and colic conditions. History tells of mothers who would overdose the baby and they would sleep forever, so it was known as "THE BABY KILLER" of the era. Mothers would also drink her share to calm her nerves which brought on years of addiction to this hard narcotic. This company also advertised this product as "THE MOTHER'S FRIEND" and could have been purchased by mail order and over the counter at your local drug store. Embossed on sides "MRS. WINSLOW'S SOOTHING SYYRUP, THE ANGLO AMERICAN DRUG CO. SUCCESSORS TO CURTIS & PERKINS PROPRIETORS". The mold seams stop at lower part of the neck, stands 5-1/8" tall with a 1 1/4" round base embossed with a #37. A real piece of our dark medicine history, in hard to find near mint condition with no chips, cracks, stains or wear.
