This film storage box is dated on top: November 23, 1909--it's 99 years old! On the top the manufacturer information is given: Jesse P. McBride MFR., Independence, Kansas Film Holder. USA. It has 1 hinge, 1 latch, and 1 handle, all pictured. It is 11 1/2" across and 36" around. It weighs over 3 pounds.
This round film storage film box is made out of galvanized iron, maybe some zinc. On the inside, some packing material is still stuck to the top and sides. The bottom is rusty. It can easily be cleaned. I can't imagine why the bottom is rusty, but it is. It's easy to carry with its metal handle. It has a latch that could have a lock if desired, and one hinge. Everything is in good working order, but this box has been through some rough handling. It has dents on top where something was thrown on top of it, and other dings of experience.
It is such a different, amazing box--a definite conversational piece. Everyone that sees it wants to know what it is, etc. If you like collecting different kinds of boxes, you will love this one because of its background and use. Selling "as is"-- no return on this item.
