Up for bid is a small sample size antique medicine bottle from the 1890's era or earlier that was hand blown in a mold with a hand tooled tapered lip. Picture of bottle is at the bottom of page. This aqua (8) paneled narcotic cure contained opium, wild cherry, ipecac, sugar house syrup, anise, alcohol and water. This snake oil medicine product didn't really cure anything, but sure made you feel better, which led to it's success. History tells of this product advertised to speedily and permanently cure coughs, colds, hoarseness, influenza, bronchitis, croup, liver complaints, asthma and all diseases of the lungs, throat and chest. In sparkling original condition, with no chips, cracks, wear or stains. It stands 4" tall with mold seams ending in the middle of the neck and front embossed; DR. WISTAR'S BALSAM OF WILD CHERRY, PHILA. and on the back is; I B. Great piece of our dark history in a bottle. This is not a reproduction and there is no reserve. A "copy" of the original advertisement from the late 1800's is included with the winning bidder, suitable for framing. Only those who can close a deal in a timely honorable manner need bid.
