ANTIQUE GOLD AGATE SEAL FOB c1800 BAKER HUGHES SIMCOE A lovely quality antique English, solid 15 carat gold (tests thereabouts) fob with stylised snake motif decoration and set with a high quality carnelian seal, engraved with an animal's head, the initials MP?, and the motto 'Non sibe sed patriæ', (For his country, not for himself). The motto for the names Baker, Filgate Heppesley, Hughes, Marsham and Simcoe.
Lovely - high quality, extremely collectable - and perfect for any chain or charm bracelet!
This fob tests as solid gold, although there is possibly a metal liner in the lower bezel - these were often made like this for strength and durability.
CONDITION: All original and very good. Slightest wear to gold detail commensurate with age. Tiny fleabite to seal, negligible.
DEFECTS: None.
DATE/MARKS: Around 1800, not marked.
DIMENSIONS: 34 mm tall, base 21 x 19 mm (1 inch = 25.4 mm). To give an impression of scale, the coin is 19 mm or 3/4 of an inch diameter.
WEIGHT: Approx. 13.4 grams.
