ANTIQUE "DORCAS" thimble by CHARLES HORNER of HALIFAX.  This is a silver clad steel cored thimble, designed and registered by CHARLES HORNER in 1885. These were aimed at the professional needlework trade. On the base band, this one has the registration No. Rd.73626., the Diamond design introduced by Charles Horner. This is followed by PATT.8., which is the size number. The trade name "DORCAS" was not introduced until 1905. This thimble predates that time, being made between 1885 and 1905. It is in superb condition, measuring 24.mm. tall, with a base diameter of 16. mm.
