A beautifully made letterbox/door knocker, massively cast in bronze and in superb condition, dating from the earlier part of the last century and probably purpose made for the door of a very prestigious building!
The combination door knocker and letterbox weighs a considerable 1.3 kilos (or just under 3lbs).
The exterior dimensions are 11” wide x 4½” high.
Lifting the knocker flap to access the posting slot reveals a bevelled, solid bronze plate measuring 10¾”x 4¼” into which the posting slot of 8”x 2” is cast.
The back of the item bears its original fitting studs and square nuts.
There is a serial number ‘B1156’ cast into the back plate.
This is an item of door furniture of superb quality and build in the very best of condition!
The knocker flap is very heavy chance that this will be rattled by a passing breeze!
No need to spend hours cleaning this as you would if it were fashioned from brass instead of bronze!
