EXCELLENT CONDITION

BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE ART NOUVEAU/ARTS & CRAFTS CARVED SOLID ENGLIGH OAK PICTURE FRAME DATING TO c.1880-1900.  THE FRAME HAS A SIMPLE CUSHION PROFILE SURROUND WITH REEDED OUTER EDGE AND A BEAUTIFUL MOULDED GILT COMPOSITION SIGHT IN A TYPICALLY STYLISED ART NOUVEAU DESIGN. THE GILT COMPOSITION HAS REALLY LOVELY PATINATION AND GENTLE SHRINKAGE CRACKING WHICH REALLY ADDS TO THE FRAMES ANTIQUE AUTHENTICITY.  THE OAK HAS RESPONDED VERY WELL TO A BEESWAX POLISH AND HAS A BEAUTIFUL RICH REDDISH COLOUR WITH LOVELY FIGURING AND PATINATION WITH A GOOD ANTIQUE SHEEN.  THE FRAME RETAINS ITS ORIGINAL HANDMADE GLASS (SO MUCH MORE INKEEPING THAN MODERN GLASS), THICK PINE BACKBOARD, STURDY HANGING RINGS AND HANDMADE TACKS.  THE BACKBOARD HAS AN OLD HANDWRITTEN FAMILY TREE PRESUMABLY SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE FRAME'S PREVIOUS CONTENTS.  THE FRAME IS VERY VERSATILE AND WOULD SUIT A WATERCOLOUR, PRINT, SAMPLER OR OLD/MODERN PHOTOGRAPH.

THE CONDITION IS EXCELLENT WITH NO CHIPS, SCRATCHES OR SCUFFS TO THE OAK.  THERE REALLY ARE ONLY THE MOST MINOR SIGNS OF WEAR WHEN TURNED TO THE LIGHT.  THE GILT COMPOSITION SIGHT IS ALSO IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH NO LOSSES.  ALL 4 CORNERS WERE TIGHT AND THERE IS NO SIGN OF WOODWORM.

THE FRAME MEASURES 20" x 17" OVERALL, 17" x 14" FOR THE APERTURE AT THE FRONT AND 17.4" x 14.4" INTO THE REBATE AT THE BACK.
