Nice small late 18th century silk sampler, worked in typical band format. First the alphabet in capitals neatly filling up two lines or bands , this has then been repeated. We then have the alphabet in lower case letters although interestingly she has started this line with a capital A with the flat top, a nice early feature. The end of this we have numbers 1 to 7. Large letters capitals A to G fill the next band . At the bottom we have the sewers details ANN DAYDON 7 Years of age 99. This would be for 1799, below this a band of red flower heads green stara and crossed arrows.
Framed in a 20th century Hogarth style frame measuring 8 3/4 x 10 3/4 inches.
The style and type of silks used as well as the backing cloth make this an 18th not late 19th century sampler. Theyt are all vegatable colours not sythetic that were introduced in the 19th century. THe style and use of a flat top allso imply 18th century.
No reserve and low starting price.
Cost of postage to the US probably $35 we can send without frame.
