An
Outstanding
Five Pillar, Double Fusee,
Rosewood Bracket Clock
by
Robert Livingston Christie
of
Edinburgh & Leith - c1850
This is a superb example of a Scottish made bracket clock dating from around 1850.
The serpentine topped rosewood veneered case is in excellent condition. The well proportioned case is embellished with carved foliate decoration and has a moulded base with scrolling feet. To the sides are original, heavily chamfered glasses, through which the movement can be viewed while the rear door is also glazed. The case is beautiful with the distinctive rosewood grain being enhanced by the patina and superb polished finish.
The original 8" painted dial is in very good condition with some light crazing. The dial has a silvered sight ring and a very fine cast bezel. The glass appears to be the original as do the blued steel hands.
The well made double fusee, gut wound, 8 day and rack striking, five pillar quality movement has a full, starwheel indexed, pull repeat facillity. It is the original movement which has been fully serviced and now benefits from our one year guarantee.
The clock is 17.5" tall x 13" wide x 7.5" deep.
This clock can be viewed by appointment.
