EARLY AMERICAN PEWTER PLATE LATE 18TH CENTURY CA. 1795-1796. EXCELLENT CONDITION NO RESERVE
DIMENSIONS
8” diameter.
DESCRIPTION
Marked twice with American eagle mark. Eagle with shield, head circled by stars, holding arrows in its talons. Initials “S. D.” on either side of the emblem, probably indicating pewter Samuel Danforth (operating 1795-1816) of Hartford, Connecticut. Note that by viewing the two touch marks, you can see an arrangement of 15 stars ringing the eagle's head, suggesting that these plates were done early in Danforth's career, ca. 1795-1796. Kentucky, the 15th state, was admitted to the union in 1792. The sixteenth, Tennessee, was admitted in 1796.
CONDITION Excellent. Very minor abrasions and scratches. A FINE REVOLUTIONARY WAR ERA AMERICAN PEWTER PLATE. If you have questions, please e-mail marksisco@roadrunner.com or call 207-372-1038. If we don’t pick up, please leave your question and we will return your call.
