Well if you haven't heard by now, Leonardo DiCaprio is producing the live action version of Katsuhiro Otomo's ground breaking comic book series Akira. Anyway, back to the issue at hand, I have a friend who has made these cels available from his vast
AKIRA collection he's been nurturing since 1988.

Radically departing from his manga of the same name and completed two years before the manga was, Akira became an instant hit and turned international eyes towards taking Japanese animation more than seriously. The most interesting thing about
Akira, was how it presented a wide range of social issues within the frame work of something quite extraordinary, much like what
The Matrix achieved more than a decade later, though not as original as Otomo.
The world of
Akira is a tapestry of movements and atmospheres, soundscapes and attitudes, that echo a world quite like
Blade Runner had done 6 years previously
, in that you wished to visit , immerse yourself truly in, and know that after your visit, you would turn around and enjoy multiple revisits. If you haven't yet seen this film, I am very envious of you. Why? Because you know nothing yet of the joy to behold, that comes upon completing your first visit to the world of
Akira.
This particular END SCENE*cel depicts one of the earliest moments of TETSUO's loss of control in the animated film. I won't spoil it for you, and for those who already know, well... you already know. The cel is in excellent condition, with the minutest of anomalies from age and original storage more than anything else, there is also some slightest remains of a cel which was stored on top of this. It also comes with its original Douga (pencil drawing) which is in super condition as is often more of a joy, in recognizing the skill and artistry involved in its detailing. It is ready to be framed or mounted as you see fit.
It is only sure to go up further in value as the news of the film become a mainstream affair.
Measurements of Cel: 16 inches x 12 inches. Measurement of drawing is 16.5 inches x 12 inches. It's unique reference cel number written at the top in marker pen, meaning where in the film the scene was allocated to in it's filming is: C638 B31 END. *and being an end scene cel, the Douga comes with a multitude of Japanese notes and amendments all written in red ink.
