"AIRCRAFT RECOGNITION" BY SAVILLE-SNEATH 1941 & 2006

"Aircraft Recognition" by R A Saville-Sneath was first published by Penguin Books in 1941 and here we have an original wartime copy (on the left in the photo) and a modern 2006 reprint (on the right).

The book originally provided an easy to use guide to identifying aircraft, both friend and foe, using official silhouettes.  Following some introductory sections on general recognition using wings, engines, recognition by sound and so on, the book goes on to cover the major types then in service.  For each type there is a page of descriptive text outlining, amongst other things, "Special Recognition Points" and a page of four silhouettes.  There are also 32 black and white photographs. A Glossary of Terms completes the book.

This classic book was re-issued by Penguin in a facsimile edition in 1990 (the one here is the 2006 reprint).

The original edition has unfortunately lost its covers and first and last few pages (it begins with the Contents list and the Index is missing from the back).  Other than that it is complete and in good condition.

The modern copy is in used but still very good condition. Soft covers, approx 7x4.25" with 174 pages and exactly the same content as the original.
