AF Confirm Chip fitting service for your adapter or accessory for your Canon EOS (D)SLR Camera
    (Canon EF mount including all film and digital models) plus rear lens cap

If you have an adapter or other non-electronic accessory for your camera without a focus confirmation chip, then you will know the frustration of taking photographs which are nearly but not quite in focus. Our focus confirmation chip activates the focus confirmation circuitry in your camera body for pin sharp images.

We are offering this chip fitting service to upgrade your unchipped adapter, macro tube, slide copier or whatever you have to provide focus confirmation. Turn around will normally be 48 hours or less between our receipt of your item and it being put in return post.

Other sellers on ebay offer the chips on a supply only basis for you to fit however the positioning of the chip is so critical that we insist on fitting them to guarantee a working solution and to avoid your disappointment.

Free postage is available for a second or subsequent item (or for this item when bought with any other of our ebay listings).

A Rear Lens cap is included to protect you lens when not attached to the camera.
(this is included in this sale to protect your chip in the post. Please do not send caps to us as we do not want to get into arguments as to whether you got your cap back or someone else's!)

We will support your faulty chipped adapter regardless of where you have bought it from.
Most ebay sellers (unlike ourselves) do not test their products before despatch. Faults can be trivial such as minor misplacement of the chip.
If a chip needs to be removed for refitting then it may break or be damaged if this is not done with great care. It is recommended that you do not attempt this yourself.
Your chip will be tested upon receipt and if it can be salvaged we will refund GBP 5.00 against your payment. Otherwise a new chip will be fitted to your item and your dead chip included back to you for disposal.
 
The chip circuit board will be fitted to your adapter with an industrial strength epoxy glue. Painted or unstable surfaces may be lightly keyed to ensure a good adhesion. There is a small risk of minor cosmetic marking arising from this but it will usually be hidden under the adhesive. Some sellers perpetuate a myth that chips are soldered to adapters. This is not, and never has been the case. Solder is brittle and would easily break. Epoxy is most suitable way to attach the composite chip circuit board to any other surface.

The "AF Confirm" chip tells your camera that the lens is in manual mode allowing the "in-focus" lights to operate in the viewfinder. It will show "F2.0" aperture to confirm that  it is working correctly. The chip allows all metering modes supported  by your camera.

You are responsible for posting your adapter to us. For customers in the UK, postage will normally be Large Letter post if your packet is under 25mm thick. The postage charged on this auction to all customers is for return postage to you. It allows for a small packet. Bulky items will be chargeable extra at cost to us. Please advise us of this before you pay so that we can adjust the postage charge on your invoice. It is recommended that for macro tubes and slide copiers you only send us the ring with the camera body bayonet if it can be detached. We do not need to have the rest of the item.

To get the focus confirmation to work with older cameras and 1Ds which have a mechanical AF switch the switch must be set to the "on" position. Your adapter or accessory must be able to press this switch. If you have one of these cameras and your accessory is working with it okay with it then it is highly likely that it is NOT pressing the switch. To check if your adapter is pressing the switch, look at it from the camera body side with the lens locking pin hole on the left. Draw an imaginary line from the lens locking pin hole across the centre of the adapter to the bayonet lug on the right side. If this bayonet lug is approximately 24mm long and is roughly equal in length above and below your imaginary line then it is pressing the switch. If it is nearer 19mm long and more below the line than above it then it is not pressing the switch and will not give focus confirmation.
Owners of later EOS cameras do not have this problem as AF is switched electronically

The AF Confirm chip is vulnerable to sharp blows and static discharge so you should always attach the lens cap when not in use.

Waffle
Old mechanical lenses generally have optics every bit as good as their modern equivalents so grab a bargain on eBay then get one of my adapters to use it on your Canon EF mount camera. Manually set the lens aperture as required. Use large apertures for low light or when you want a defocussed background e.g. for a portrait shot. Use small apertures in bright light or if you want a longer exposure for instance to blur an aircraft propeller or the background of a fast moving racing car. Use the camera's Av mode for automatic exposure. You will need to set focus by hand. This takes a little practice as the modern viewfinders are not so easy to judge as the old split focus type. Using smaller apertures considerably increases your margin for error. For reliable pin-sharp focus select an AF Confirm adapter which will activate the focus lights in your viewfinder.
