A harpsichord for Mr Gainsborough Gerald Gifford plays a Shudi and Broadwood harpsichord C 1775. The artist Thomas Gainsborough was a great music lover and performer who aquired a significant collection of instruments. He owned a Shudi and Broadwood harpsichord, and although this instrument’s whereabouts is unknown, it was built at the same time as the harpsichord featured in this recording, and is likely to have exhibited similar qualities. This entertaining program of period music shows the instrument, and Gerald’s stylish playing to perfection. |
