A TRULY UNIQUE CAMERA - PERFECT FOR LOMO/HOLGA FANS.

This is a fixed focus camera that I have reset to focus at infinity.

These cameras are normally set to focus at 2.5m – 3.0 m, which is fine for closer shots, but always gives a soft result for more distant subjects.

Most photography writers promote focusing at the hyperfocal distance which for these cameras is indeed in the range 2.5m – 3.0m, however there is a counter view (backed by a logical explanation) which indicates that infinity focus is better for all but the closest subjects (less that 2.0m). Certainly, infinity focus will give much better results for any scenic images.

I have been using this principle for some time now and it has revolutionised the results that I get from these cheap and simple cameras. I have now decided to convert more cameras and sell them on to share this positive experience with others.

This particular camera is a Goldline MD500 that has been reset to focus on infinity. the focus has been checked by collimator and on film. I am a chartered engineer with long experience in precision manufacturing and my work reflects this, for more information take a look here:

This camera has a single element lens (like a Holga) with the usual curved image plane, and a flat film plane (again like a Holga). Therefore it gives the attractive fall off in sharpness and illumination (vignetting) just like a Holga. A useful result of this arrangement is that subjects near the edges of the image that are close to the camera will be sharp. For example, if you frame a landscape with branches they should be well rendered even though the focus is set to infinity!
