This beautiful cup shape is the much underestimated Mayfair shape introduced by Shelley in 1932.
The factory was at the peak of its production and the new - mainly Art Deco - designs which were being applied to the very fine porcelain  were superb.
This is no exception! 


 The design is primarily floral but arranged in such a way as to be unmistakably Art Deco in its influence. The colours are a very subtle mixture of pale oranges, purples, blues and greens given sparkle and pizzazz with the clever use of fine gilding. The latter is in fabulous condition with no rubbing or wear - not even on the handle of the cup. The trio looks as though it has spent most of its life in a display cabinet and must have only been used on very special occasions. The pattern number is 12278 and this was first introduced by Shelley in April 1934.  

The trio is in pristine - JUST OUT OF THE SHOWROOM -  condition with no chips, cracks or crazing. The gilding is 100% intact.
 The trio is normal tea service size.           
   

Measurements

The very elegant cup is just under 3 inches (7.5cm) tall.
The saucer is about 5.75 inches (14.5cm) in diameter.
The plate is about 6.5 inches (16.5cm) "square".
