the importance of using the correct screen cleaner

there are many different screen cleaning products on the market today ,and customers recieve varying advice on the matterfrom both flatscreen manufacturers and distributors .Flatscreen surfaces differ in quality ,although most are made of plastic .plastic surfaces are very sensitive and are easily damaged or scratched by daily use and cleaning .Tests show that the use of the wrong cloth ,such as normal housekeeping cloths ,can leave serious scratches on the surface even after cleaning only a few times .AM uses only microfibre produced with round fibres and soft ends that ensures the material itself does not cause microscopic scratches.

Correct fluid and cloth are important

A comparison test where 2 sets of 8 different brands of used flatscreens were intensively subjected to moisture and frequent cleaning with respectively with respectivley,100% IPA [alcohol that is used in many cleaning products ]cleaning fluid and AMs water based cleaning solution ,showed clear results . after only 2 days the screens exposed to IPA showed clear visible signs of being affected .The IPA permeated through microscopic scratches and pores in the surface and caused the underlying material to bubble up .It is clear that even small scratches are the culprit in the permeation of the alcohol. Even after 3 months of exposure and cleaning with AMs formula ,none of the screen surfaces showed any damage or any other visible effect ,other than a clean screen . am cleaners are water based and contain no IPA or other alchohol . AM formula IS EFFECTIVE BUT GENTLE AND CAN BE USED ON ALL TYPES OF SCREENS

AM Products offers water-based, alcohol-free screen cleaners (8/1/2007)

Flatscreen TVs are on the verge of relegating traditional CRT (cathode ray tube) TVs to the history books, just as they have done in the PC sector, but most owners are still unaware that cleaning them improperly can seriously damage their new pride and joy.

There are two major hazards. The first is that flatscreen surfaces - which are mostly plastic - are easily scratched by conventional housekeeping cloths or kitchen roll, scratches that are visible even after cleaning just a few times. The best material to use is micro-fibre with round fibres and soft ends.

No 2 is that many of the conventional so-called flatscreen cleaning kits currently available are wholly unsuitable for the job as they contain high levels of Isopropyl alcohol (IPA). Tests recently conducted by Danish accessories manufacturer AM Products, using 100 per cent IPA on 8 different brands of used flatscreens, showed visible, physical evidence of damage just 2 days after the screens were exposed to IPA-based cleaning fluid.

The IPA had permeated through microscopic scratches and pores in the surface of the LCD screens and caused visible bubbling in the screen's underlying material.

Months of treatment using AM's specially developed water-based, alcohol-free screen cleaner formula, however, resulted in absolutely no damage whatsoever.
