A Rare Geo Butler “Spare Moments Safety Razor” Straight Razor

ca. 1848-1926. The "ART" trade mark was granted to Butler in 1861.
Butler George and Co. merchants and table and spring knife, razor, scissor, edgetool, steel,

& manufacturers, Trinity Works, 4 Trinity street

This cut throat razor has a 5/8”+ 1/4 Hollow ground blade.

It has Black Celluloid scales with a lead spacer.

Engraved on the tang are the words
“GEORGE BUTLER & CO Sheffield, England” & the Key Trademark

On the blade there is “Spare Moments Safety Razor”
this is also on the blade guard.

Condition.

Case. Original Case, some wear

Razor.  I have Cleaned the razor & it has left shallow pitting on the tang, spine & blade,

leaving the blade looking a little dull .

The hone wear is light at less than .5mm. There are no chips or cracks in the blade,

the guard is ok & the scales are fine. Not shave ready.

Cleaning of the razors.
The razors are cleaned using a rotary wire brush & polished using several grades of paste.

The scales are also polished. If the edges have any chips or flea-bites these are honed out.

They are not sold as shave ready.
