SPECIAL AUTUMN DISCOUNT PRICE *** NEW Cassini OS Popular Edition Maps - these maps are taken from the Ordnance Survey's Popular Edition maps which were first published between 1919 and 1926. They have all been carefully scanned, digitally re-projected and enlarged from the original 1 inch to a mile scale up to 1:50,000 to match the present-day Ordnance Survey Landranger® series. Cassini's Historical map series covers the whole of England and Wales. The Ordnance Survey Popular Edition was first published between 1919 and 1926 - a period which saw the heyday of the railways, the emergence of the motor car and the expansion of many suburban areas that were soon to over-run much of the surrounding countryside. This edition was the first of the OS's mapping series to have been conceived as a mass-market product and reflects the growth of leisure time, recreation and travel for pleasure. The series is thus a fascinating and elegant record of Britain at a time of great social and demographic transition.

Cassini Maps (formerly Timeline Maps) is a company specialising in sourcing, scanning, digitally enhancing and re-publishing historical maps in a variety of formats. Their aim is to produce maps of the highest quality which are also relevant to current-day research needs.

Cassini have also published Old Series maps which are based on Ordnance Survey's one inch to the mile maps published between 1805 and 1874. This was the first accurate national survey and records a time of momentous transition from an agrarian to an industrialised society.

A central feature of the Historical Map series is that the originals have been combined, re-scaled and re-projected exactly to match Ordnance Survery's modern-day Landrangers®. They even have the same map identification number and the same British National Grid references. This enables direct comparison of the past and present in a way not possible with maps of different specifications. They are the same size as the Landrangers® when open or folded and have a similar laminated colour cover.

Whether you're a local historian, a genealogist, a student, a walker or someone with a general interest in the history of your area, these maps will be a valuable addition to your library. Although often hidden behind unfamiliar names or buried under concrete or tarmac, the past is all around us and waiting to be discovered. Cassini's Historical Map series will help point out the way.
