It was used in very ancient times, and was the badge of the followers of Pythagoras, possibly because its proportions contain the mathematical 'golden section' still used today by artsits and architects. It represents the five elements of magick used in the Western occult tradition - the material elements of Earth, Air, Fire, Water ruled over by Spirit, the topmost point of the star.
Celtic knotwork is an ancient tradition. It's origins can be traced back as far 500 BCE. Knotwork is found in many 7th to 9th century CE manuscripts filling borders and empty space. These intricate, artistic patterns are indeed masterpieces of craftsmanship; some taking months of work to perfect. A fabulous example of this beautiful illumination is the Book of Kells. This artwork is so stunningly beautiful in it's seeming simplicity - a single path that never terminates except within itself.
Silver is sacred to the Moon and to all Moon Goddesses, such as Diana, Isis, Luna and Selena. It is believed to carry the qualities of Invocation, Love, Psychism, Peace, Protection & Dreams. It is also used for charms to attract money.
