Euphorbia

You are buying a mixed variety pack of 6x Euphorbia plug plants.

They will be selected from among the following

Euphorbia a. Purpurea, Euphorbia a. robbiae, Euphorbia martinii

(subject to availability)

Also known as Spurge, these hardy evergreen perennials form a mat of foliage rosettes above lime green flower bracts are produced from spring into early summer. Because they are evergreen, these spurges are wonderful for winter colour.

Wood Spurge, Euphorbia amydgeloides -of which Purporea and robiniae are cultivars- grows to about 50 -60cms tall. It thrives in partial shade and in dry, poor soil. This makes it a good choice for difficult areas where few other plants would grow, such as under trees. Euphorbia a. Purpurea has particularly striking dark purple foliage and can make a superb accent plant in a large winter container. They are also often used in flower arranging.

Martin's Spurge, Euphorbia martinii has green foliage, reaches 75cms tall and thrives in well drained fertile soil. It prefers full sun but will tolerate partial shade. It is good for gravel gardens, sunny borders or coastal areas.

Please note that spurges contain a milky sap which is poisonous and can irritate the skin and eyes. So care should be taken when handling, cutting or dividing this plant.

These plants are supplied as very well rooted, healthy plug plants and are ready for potting straight on. They are best grown on in a frost free greenhouse or indoors on a windowsill and planted out once established. The picture shows the foliage and/or flower colour, although this may vary from the image shown.

Plug plants should be unpacked immediately upon arrival and kept out of direct sunlight, if necessary the rootball should be immersed in cool water until saturated and then the plug planted into its container. Plant into a good quality potting compost, preferably a mixture including a proportion of John innes and slow release fertiliser.

Deciduous trees and plants may be shipped without leaves during their dormancy period.
