THIS IS FOR 6 YARDS OF 15 PLY FLAT BRAIDED CANDLE WICK. THIS WICK IS SUITABLE FOR CANDLES UP TO ABOUT AN INCH IN DIAMETER. T LIGHTS VOTIVE FLOATERS ALL SMALL DIAMETER CANDLES. Flat Braid Candle Wick is designed for use in taper and pillar candles. This candle wick gives a slight curl when burning, which reduces carbon buildup and makes wick self-trimming. Flat Braid candle wick is constructed of 100 % natural fibers and chemically treated to improve candle burn qualities .This is for 6 yards of 15 ply Flat braided wick for candle making. This wick is for candles 1 inch in diameter. You measure the diameter of a candle across the top. I've just discovered that this wick is three times more expensive than any other wick I sell and I'm amazed. I couldn't believe it when I saw the invoice. I don't even know why this is or what's so special about it. This wick is great for tea lights and small novelty candles. I don’t actually use much of this myself as I make floating candles and use small paper core wick. I don’t make many tea lights but I have in the past doubled this wick to make it thicker for a larger candle but you will have to try this out for yourself. Here is a useful tip for waxing wicks. You don’t have to always wax a wick for candle making. Especially if you are pouring your wax into a mould with the wick threaded. However, I wax my wicks by running about two feet of wick through the melted wax, then running it through a bowl or basin of cold water. Do this a few times until you get the thickness you want. This is great for when you pour a candle i.e a floater, and then let it cool and then insert the wick. This is the way you make dipped candles but you need two tall containers for that, one with wax and one with water and you dip alternately. DON’T FORGET THIS IS A SMALL PLY WICK AND ONLY USED FOR SMALL DIAMETER CANDLES. A few candle making tips. You can make candles in yoghurt pots. THIS WOULD BE USEFUL AS A TRIAL. Trial and error will get you a perfect candle. If a candle smokes the wick is too big. If a candle floods the wick is too small. An additive like stearin will make your candle burn better and last longer. 10% or 5% is all you need. Add perfume just before pouring a candle. Don’t put perfumed wax in rubber moulds. If you are using bits of candles to melt down bear in mind that these candles probably have no additives added to them and they are probably a low melting point wax. Then you would have to adjust the wick size to a smaller size. If you have a candle in a ridged mould and you can’t get it out, put it in the freezer for a couple of hours. If that don’t work then you will have to put very hot water on the mould. The candle will be ruined. Always top up candles by inserting a wicking needles around the wick as wax shrinks and if you don’t top your candle up then the inside around the wick will be hollow and it won’t burn right. THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT PART OF MAKING A CANDLE. PRICKING AROUND THE WICK, LETTING THE AIR BUBBLES OUT AND TOPPING THE CANDLE UP. ALL CANDLES NEED TOPPING UP, EVEN LITTLE FLOATERS. I USE ALL THE WICK I SELL AND ADD 5% OR 10% OF STEARINE. YOU CAN EVEN USE LESS AND YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO USE ANY AT ALL IF YOU DON'T WANT TOO. THE CHOICE IS UP TO YOU. |
