An elephant’s dung is just fibre. Elephants are poor digesters of their food over 50% of what they eat comes straight out the other end. The elephants are kindly doing the first stage of any paper making process – getting the fibres. The dung is collected, washed and boiled for 5 hours. It is then spun for about 3 hours to cut the fibres. Any colour is added at this stage. The processed dung is then divided into balls of equal weight which are spread onto bamboo frames and left in the sun to dry. The resulting paper is then sanded to a smooth surface.
Elephant Dung Paper products from the Thai Conservation Centre are 100% bacteria free, 100% odour free, 100% recycled, & 100% handmade - with the exception of some help from the elephants! (The colours & pictures on the front of the cards will vary as all are different)
