This solstice is on the shortest day of the year. At dusk the longest night of the year begins and all over the dark side of the world eager vigils are held for the return of the life giving Sun. It is a solar holiday in which the Divine light and warmth of the Sun is honoured in hopes that its rebirth will bring new hope, peace, and harmony to the Earth’s peoples. The Sun gains in power, staying above the horizon longer and warming the planet more each day. Yule is a time of celebration, when we begin to see the days growing longer again and hopefully our hardships lessening. It has been celebrated in this way for millennia and has been adopted by many other religious faiths. Yuletide lasts from December 20th through December 31st. It begins on “Mother Night” and ends twelve days later, on “Yule Night”, hence the “Twelve Days of Christmas” tradition. INFO excerpted from:
