A reserve price is the minimum price the seller will accept. This price is hidden from bidders. To win, a bidder must have the highest bid and have met or exceeded the reserve price.
We are Lesley and Loren, a mother and daughter team of professional restorers.
Our courses are informal, friendly and fun! Restoration is a fantastic and fascinating area to become involved in, especially if you're a collector, and we're sure that you'll thoroughly enjoy all aspects of the course. We love what we do, and we hope that you will too.
THE COURSE
Our 5 day courses are aimed primarily at those looking to start a new hobby and collectors who want to learn ceramics restoration. They allow us to cover more areas, and in greater depth, than our 3 day or weekend courses.
We will work with you on restoring the pieces you bring, concentrating on the specific faults found most often in your area of interest - for example a Bewick collector will certainly need to be able to model a missing ear will but have very little interest in learning to make a missing flower, which collectors of LLadro and Capodimonte would find invaluable!
The course will teach you how to deal with the most common problems which occur within your chosen area.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
Dismantling and Cleaning of Existing Repairs
Re-attaching Broken Pieces
Dealing with Chips
Modelling Small Missing Pieces
Stabilising Hairlines & Cracks
Moulding Larger Missing Pieces
"Cuffing" Techniques For Badly Damaged Joins
Using Glazes
Colour Matching
Hand Painting Techniques
Glazing & Finishing
Airbrushing Basics / Demonstration
Airbrushing Practice (Time Permitting)
WHAT'S INCLUDED?
The cost of the course includes all the materials and equipment you will use, a comprehensive set of notes, follow up help by phone or email if needed, a light lunch each day and a continual supply of tea, coffee and biscuits!
WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING
We suggest you bring 4 or 5 pieces to work on, each with a different problem, and 2 or 3 plain white, 6 inch ceramic tiles. In addition, an apron or old top would be useful.
Please note: that although we aim to send you home with at least one fully completed item we cannot guarantee that you will fully complete a piece while on the course - that depends on the complexity of the repair and how quickly you pick up the techniques. However, we DO guarantee that you will know how to finish all your pieces and will be able to complete them at home .
We provide a set of comprehensive notes for you to take home to keep what you have learnt clear in your mind and we are available by email or phone if you have any problems - or, of course, you could come and see us again!
HOW LONG IS THE COURSE?
The course will run from approx. 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday. We say "approx." as the courses are quite informal, and no-one is going to get told off for arriving 10 minutes late! Also, we can almost guarantee that at the end of the afternoon you'll be in the middle of something which just can't be left, but you won't be asked to leave just because the clock says 4:30.
COURSE DATES
Please take a look at our Course Calendar where we list dates available from May to November. For other dates please contact us.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
Our 5 day courses cost £400, which includes all material and equipment used on the course, snacks on Friday, a light lunch on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, comprehensive notes, follow-up help via phone or e-mail if needed and as much tea and coffee as you can drink!
PAYING FOR THE COURSE
We ask for a £50 deposit at the time of booking, with the balance payable at the start of the course. Deposit payments may be made by Paypal, Cheque or Postal Order. If you want to pay your deposit via Paypal, please let us know and we will send an invoice. Payment of the balance is due when you arrive on the first morning of the course.
OTHER INFO.
The course is strictly limited to a maximum of 6 students, and with 2 of us available at all times you are assured of all the personal tuition and help you need.
ACCOMMODATION
Southport is a pleasant, elegant seaside resort on England’s North West coast.
There are many places to stay, from Self-Catering Holiday Flats, through Bed & Breakfast and Guest Houses to 5-Star Hotels. If you let us know your requirements we’ll be happy to recommend some near by – there are even a couple on our road!
We
have
had excellent reports from several of our clients about The
Victorian, a family run guest house just 3 minutes walk away. They said
the owners are extremely friendly and helpful, and we're told the
breakfast is superb! For that reason we have been in touch with the
hotel and they will offer some special rates for people coming on the course -
for example, a 4 night stay would costs from £105 for a single room or
£170 for a double (subject to availability). For more information,
follow the link below.

THE AREA - SOUTHPORT
Our large Victorian home, in which the courses are held, is ideally situated within a 3 minute walk of Southport's elegant Lord Street, the Promenade and Marine Lake.
Lord Street is a mile-long, tree-lined boulevard, renowned for its high quality shopping, restaurants and bars. Victorian arcaded shops line one side of the road, with gardens and fountains along the other. There are a number of glass-vaulted shopping arcades off Lord Street including Wayfarers Arcade, Cambridge Walks and the Royal Arcade. It is said that Napoleon III, who lived in Southport for a time, modelled the famous Paris Boulevards on Southport’s Lord St!
The Marine Lake is one of the largest man-made leisure pursuits lakes in England. The lake is home to various watersports clubs including sailing, water-skiing and rowing, and also to a wide range of water birds including a large flock of swans, including black swans.
A walk along the promenade, next to the lake, is delightful. The promenade runs for well over a mile, and is adorned with flower beds and the glorious Kings Gardens, leading to Victoria Park where Southport’s famous flower show is held every summer.
In addition we are a short walk from Hesketh Park, which last year celebrated both its 140th anniversary and the completion of a major Lottery-funded rennovation, and boasts the last working clockwork floral clock in England.
Southport is packed with excellent restaurants with food from all over the world – you’ll be sure to find something to suit.
The sand-dunes are home to the rare Natterjack Toads, while down the road in Formby the Pine Forests that edge the beach are home to a large colony of Red Squirrels, which you are almost guaranteed to see if you go for a walk around there.
With 2 theatres, a 7 screen cinema and more, you’re bound to find ways to enjoy yourself – or if you want to fetch your partner or family they'll find plenty to occupy them while you're on the course.
For those who want to travel further, we are close to the Trough of Bowland, Liverpool, (now recovering from celebrating its year as Capital of Culture!) – or how about a day trip to Blackpool?
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email us, or phone us on 01704 547114 or 07811532894 - we’re very friendly and would love to hear from you! You can find out more at our website http://whitesrestorations.co.uk.
We hope to be meeting you soon!
