4 hardback books

all in good condition, with dustcovers

details as outlined below:

1.  WHALES AND DOLPHINS

with more than 100 spectacular photographs of the fascinating world of sea mammals

written by Vic Cox

photographs from The Image Bank

First edition published by Ted Smart, 1990

Hardback with paper dustcover, 28 x 30.5 cm, 128 pages on quality semi-gloss paper

With high quality colour photographs throughout.

ISBN 0-941267-06-7

There is one small tear in the top edge of the dustcover at the front (approx. 0.5 cm) but apart from this the dustcover is in a generally very good state with nothing worse than minor scuffing along  the edges and a few small surface marks. The inside flap has been neatly price clipped.

The hardback cover underneath has a quality, glossy surface, printed with illustrations and text to match that of the dustcover.

The hardback cover has been very well protected and shows no more slight rubbing to the bottom of the spine and minor bumping to some of the other corners.

The binding is perfectly sound with no loose pages.

On the title page there is a neatly handwriten dedication: " For Becky, with my love, Pippa."

Otherwise the inside of the book is unmarked and the contents remain in very good to excellent condition throughout.

Cover notes:

"... This magnificent book includes more than 110 full-color pictures of whales photographed in natural habitats from the Arctic to the Antarctic, which offer spectacular views of these awesome creatures. Pictures of the familiar bottlenose dolphin and orca, the killer whale, are here as well, along with those of the tusked narwhal, the winged humpback, and the virtually blind Ganges River dolphin, to name but a few of the more unusual species.

Whales and Dolphins blends spectacular marine photography with a clearly written, informative text to offer anyone with an interest in marine life - from the armchair whalewatcher to the avid sailor - a close look at some of the most fascinating creatures that exist in nature."

2.  ANOTHER PENGUIN SUMMER

by Olin Sewall Pettingill, Jr.

First edition published by George G. Harrap & Co Ltd, 1975

Hardback with paper dustcover, 21.5 x 28 cm, 80 pages on semi-gloss paper

With black & white and colour photographs throughout.

ISBN 0-245-52805-9

The dustcover is unclipped and is in a generally very good state with nothing worse than minor shelfwear along the edges and slight rubbing of the surfaces.

The hardback cover has been very well protected, with corners still sharp and just some minor fading along the exposed edges.

The binding is perfectly sound with no loose pages.

The inside of the book is unmarked and the contents remain in very good to excellent condition throughout.

Cover notes:

"Several years ago, Olin Sewall Pettingill, Jr., leading wildlife photographer and noted ornithologist, went to the Falkland Islands under the sponsorship of Walt Disney to photograph the activities of the penguins there. More recently Dr Pettingill returned to the Falklands for another penguin summer.

... This delightful and informative book, which grew out of that second summer in the Falklands, looks at five penguin species - Gentoo, Rockhopper, King, Magellanic (or Jackass), and Macaroni. The author tells about the penguins' daily lives; their pairing and nest-building, the birth and progress of their chicks, family problems, squabbles with neighbours; and at the same time highlights their more amusing and human characteristics - their shortsightedness, their awkwardness, their individual personalities.

The author's introductory text, combined with his superb photographs, makes this a wonderful book for all wildlife enthusiasts. But it is a great deal more - a lighthearted look at perhaps the most charming and appealing of birds, and by inference an apt but painless look at ourselves."

3.  Eyewitness Guide: SHARK

Discover the fascinating and varied world of sharks - their natural history, behaviour, and secret underwater lives

4.  WEATHER FORCE

Climate and its impact on our world

by John Gribbin

First published by Bison Books Ltd, 1979

This reprint published 1990

Hardback with paper dustcover, 22 x 29 cm, 192 pages on quality paper

With black & white and colour photographs and illustrations throughout.

ISBN 0-86124-675-6

There is a single 2.5 cm tear near the bottom right hand corner of the dustcover at the front. Apart from this the dustcover is unclipped and is in a generally very good state with nothing worse than minor scuffing along  the edges and a few small surface marks.

The hardback cover has been very well protected and shows no more than some minor bumping to the bottom corners.

The binding is perfectly sound with no loose pages.

The inside of the book is unmarked and the contents remain in very good to excellent condition throughout.

Cover notes:

"The power of weather to disrupt daily lives has been underlined in the 1970s by violent extremes - famine in sub-Saharan Africa, Arctic conditions in the eastern US, droughts, floods, and freezes in Europe.

Weather Force looks at the meaning of such events. The world's climate is never stable. Ever present within the earth's atmosphere are the forces which not only determine the daily, statistically average climatic conditions, but also dictate the formation of the more perilous and destructive aspects of weather such as tornadoes and hurricanes. John Gribbin, a specialist in astronomy and earth sciences, describes the machinery behind these events. In this lavishly iluustrated study, he combines a popular account of current climatological knowledge with an assessment of the impact of weather and climate change on humanity."
