DANISH LANGUAGE TRANSLATIONS:
1970s-1980s POLITICAL AND COLD WAR THRILLERS
Hardback books with paper dustcovers, published by Lademann, Copenhagen.
All in generally very good condition: individual details as outlined below:
1. LAVINE-EKPRESSEN (Original English title: AVALANCHE EXPRESS, 1977)
by Colin Forbes
In the Cold War a highly-ranked agent in the Politburo has information on plans for a large scale Russian attack on Western Europe. The US secret service arranges to extricate their man by plane but at the last minute the plans have to be changed to the train. And as the Atlantic Express thunders across Europe through snow and ice, the deciding drama is played out inside its carriages.
15.5 x 23.5 cm, 238 pages, translation 1978.
The dustcover has one small edge tear (< 1 cm) and other minor scuffing around the edges, but otherwise it is complete and in a good sound state.
The hardback book underneath has been very well protected and apart from some very slight shelfwear along the edges of the cover, it remains in excellent condition thoughout.
2. STENLEOPARDEN (Original English title: THE STONE LEOPARD, 1975)
by Colin Forbes
Two weeks before the President of France is due to visit Moscow, intelligence is obtained pointing to a planned communist coup in his country, led by an unnamed member of his own government. A desperate secret hunt is launched to identify the traitor before it is too late.
15.5 x 23.5 cm, 220 pages, translation 1977.
The dustcover has a 6.5 cm tear down the edge between the spine and the front cover and there is associated creasing across the top of the front of the dustcover. Apart from this, the dustcover is complete and in a good state (could possibly be improved by a piece of tape across the back of the tear?).
The hardback book underneath has been very well protected and it remains in generally excellent condition thoughout.
3. DRAGEN (Original English title: THE DRAGON, 1977)
by Alfred Coppel
The balance of international power is threatened by a secret new Chinese laser weapon which is capable of shooting down enemy missiles with deadly accuracy.
16 x 23.5 cm, 301 pages, translation 1979.
Some scuffing and small tears to the edges of the dustcover but otherwise very good.
Hardback cover and contents in excellent condition.
A small explanation:
In 2005, a very kind e-Bay member (gbc62007) posted a mixed lot of some 135 hardbacks on e-Bay: "Danish books going free to a good home".
Since then I have been gradually offering the books for sale on e-Bay, for Danish readers/learners who might be interested to bid for them, knowing that all the proceeds from the sale will be going to The Jamie Fund, to help improve facilities for young people.
You can read more about the background to The Jamie Fund on the Buy-it-Now listing for my fund-raising book Hey, Mr Big!, which you will find amongst my other items for sale here on e-Bay.
More than three quarters of the original collection of Danish books has now been sold, earning a most welcome boost for The Jamie Fund.
Buyers outside Europe should be aware that delivery by surface mail will usually take up to 8 weeks, and sometimes more. Please e-mail for details on airmail if more rapid delivery is required.
Any questions about the item, postage, insurance, or other delivery options please e-mail before bidding. I try to make my descriptions as helpful and accurate as possible. Any queries after delivery, e-mail me and I will do my best to sort it out. I am happy to say 'read my feedback.'
... and finally, perhaps you might take a moment to look at my book Hey, Mr Big! Most of the time you should be able to find a copy of the book advertised amongst my other items for sale on e-Bay. If the latest listing has finished though, you are most welcome to send me a message via e-Bay so that I can list a new copy for "Buy it Now".
All proceeds from the sale of Hey, Mr Big! are going to fund raising for the benefit of young people. You will find more details on the item description for the book.
Even if you can't manage to buy a copy for yourself, perhaps you know a friend who might be interested ....?
