A 360 degree glass prism is an excellent bit of kit for setting out on site and land surveying , BUT!
1) They cost a fortune! £450+

5) Impractical to use on a prism pole, and too bulky to use as a mini-prism
6) Due to its cost, it cannot be left out of sight!
The Sentripod was designed to overcome the above drawbacks of an expensive glass prism. Some features are:

Features of the Sentripod:
The Sentripod Company is the forerunning specialist in non-glass 3 dimensional targets. The Sentripod is a simple monitoring device which can be easily secured to most surfaces. It consists essentially of a retro reflective vial which returns EDM measurements from any direction. Mounted on a "pogo" prism pole, it can be used for topo surveys, land surveying and setting out.
Mounted on a mini-prism attachment, it can be used as a mini prism for detailed setting out. No more shouting to your assistant to "turn the prism"!
The device can be fixed to structures for monitoring movement and settlement. Superior to "retro targets" which have to be oberved from a limited angle of incidence which is not always practicle. The Sentripod offers 360 degree signal return.....
Fixed to a stable object (column,wall, sheet pile, timber stake, cliff, etc), the Sentripod makes an ideal backsight target, which can be oberved from any angle. If strategically positioned, they can be fixed once, and remain for the duration of the project. This saves valuable time since there is no longer a requirement to set up individual uni-directional glass prisms which have to packed up after each shift, checked periodically for movement from nearby vibrations. And each time you move to a new location, the prism has to be re-aligned!
The Sentripod can be mounted on a tribrach in the same way as a conventional uni-directional glass prism, but offers 360 degree observation.
Railway application:
The Sentripod was originally desinged for the Railway industry, but the benefits have since been appreciated and applied in numerous other industries.
A special "railbracket" allows the Sentripod to be fixed to railway tracks allowing accurate track monitoring. (Please enquire for prices)
