How does the whitening treatment work?

	Form the Thermo-Fit™ Bleaching Trays (only need to do once) 1. Heat the mouth trays Boil a pot of water. Turn off the heat and wait a few minutes after the water has stopped bubbling. Hold the mouth tray in its tab and submerge the mouth tray into the hot water for 3-10 seconds (start with 3 seconds). Notice how the mouth tray starts to wilt and become flexible and easy to form after your teeth. 2. Make an imprint in the mouth tray Lift the mouth tray from the water using the tab and shake the water off. Carefully and quickly place the mouth tray over your teeth and press hard with your fingers around it. At the same time, press your tongue on the back of the mouth tray. For better imprints of your front teeth, press hard with your fingertips on the front of the tray while it is soft. Let the mouth tray cool and harden. Remove the mouth tray from your mouth. 3. Adjust and trim the mouth tray The mouth tray should now be formed after your teeth. It should fit your teeth tightly and you should see strong imprints of your front teeth. If you are not satisfied with the results of the fit, you may reheat the mouth tray and repeat steps 1 and 2 several times. When you are satisfied with the result, use scissors to adjust and trim the mouth tray so it does not cover too much of your gums (it should end at the teeth/gum line). Finally, use scissors to cut off the holding tab from the mouth tray. Repeat the procedure 1 to 3 for each mouth tray (both upper and lower). This procedure is only done once for each mouth tray.
	Brush your teeth We advise brushing and flossing before whitening to remove any large food particles and to allow a clean surface for the gel to adhere to.
	Apply the whitening gel Apply directly from the syringe, a small bead of gel to the dent that each tooth makes in the inside of the bleaching trays. You only need apply between 0.25ml - 0.5ml of gel per tray.
	Whiten Apply upper and lower trays over teeth. If any excess gel spills over the trays, just wipe away with a cotton bud. Then insert laser into mouth, putting lips over the clear screen to hold it in place near your teeth. Push the button and the timer will shut the laser off automatically after 10 minutes.
	Time Wear the 35% Carbamide Peroxide gel for 5-30 minutes, once a day until the desired shade of whitening has been acheived (usually 5 to 14 days).

You should reduce the intake of colourful food and drink as much as possible during the whitening itself and, to achieve the best result, for an additional week after the whitening period. Any whitening treatment should not be done if you are pregnant (as Carbamide Peroxide bleaching has not been tested with pregnant women) or have gingivitis.

• Will bleaching gel work on or damage crowns/fillings/veneers?

Whitening doesn’t harm or affect plastic or composite teeth (crowns), fillings or veneers – so you can whiten your teeth without worrying, however if you have fillings, crowns or veneers on front teeth they may become visible as the surrounding natural teeth become whiter and you may wish to have them replaced.
