This yarn is a 3 ply, 3/14NM.  One strand is left very soft spun to give the great slubby texture. This yarn was originally marketed as Crofter brand by Todd & Duncan. It will knit similarly to the fingering weight yarns described here.. giving about 28 stitches on a 4" swatch with US 3, 3mm, needles. We also run a yahoo user group for all our customers, for swapping advice and experiences of using these yarns here.

This yarn is supplied still oiled for industrial knitting, and needs to be washed to "bloom" - the photo includes a washed skein to show how it blooms. Finished garments should be able to take the gentlest wash in your machine but for the first wash we strongly recommend a hot hand wash using detergent or shampoo, not soap (because you want to remove the oil), and the drying should include a good rub or a short tumble dry to fluff the fibres. This wash should be carried out after knitting a garment, which gives a tighter and harder wearing overall result (but trial swatches should be treated the same way to see the final expected result of course).
