These are seedlings of Asparagus 'Connover's Colossal', as shown in the photograph, ready to plant out into a seed tray or transplant into prepared ground.   Asparagus needs well-drained soils.  If you have heavy soil they would need to be grown in a raised bed. 

Asparagus is an excellent vegetable crop which is becoming increasingly more popular.  Once mature they will be productive for approximately 20 years before needing to be replenished.  These seedlings will not produce a crop immediately but this is a good way of starting a future crop.

This is a hardy perennial, edible vegetable, sometimes used in flower arranging.
