Soft reed, Good for very young, beginning student who has no any experience in playing a woodwind instrument. It's very easy to play.

Medium soft reed, Good for the new oboe student who has some experience in playing a woodwind instrument. It's easy to play. This strength should be used by new student during the first year of playing.

Medium reed, The medium strength reed is the best, all around reed for most students who have played for a few years.

Medium hard reed, good for the student who has some ability to scrape the reed by hand.

If you can’t decide which hardness reed is good for you, the best way is to purchase a set of mixed strength reeds which include a soft, a med-soft, a medium, and a med-hard reed, You can try them one by one.

Q: What’s different between the oboe reed with and without wire?

A: They are same thing for playing. The reed without wire is in perfect shape, so it need more time to adjust. For the reed with wire, it is traditional technique to make oboe reed. Sometimes it needs wire to adjust tone.

Q: What’s different between American, France, and Germany style oboe reed?

A: No more different between France, and Germany style reed! They are traditional scrape style. Just standard tone is A-443 in German. Also there is little different in the reed length. American style scrape reed is short, and have V tip, heart, long scrape, windows, and spine. It is easy to play.

Q: why the list shipping price in ebay is always high than post office price?

A: The list shipping price is including shipping cost, handling material cost, and other costs like certificate of mailing for international shipping.  This price just  in my  receipt,  the buyer  can't  see  it.

A: Yes, I do. You can wait for combine invoice. Sometimes, I can’t send a combine invoice for different currency, I always change one currency into another one that custom is easy to pay, add the number into other order as other charge.

Q: The oboe reed I just received look like air leaking on the side of tip. Is it broken?

A: Sometimes, the reeds look like air leaking because it is in dry air. Put the reed tip into water for 3-5 mins, the tip should change back to perfect shape, and then, block the tube by your finger and blow the reed tip. It is great reed if you don't feel the wind.
