3" NAUTICALGIMBALED COMPASS ON SAILOR WHEEL BASE It is beautiful solid brass reproduction of sailing ship cabin compass in polished brass luster finish . The compass is mounted on gimbal ring on very heavy brass sailors wheel stand . The gimbaled Compass is used in navigation to dampen or cancel the effects of the ship's motion and it is typically placed on a Cardanic joint (Gimbals).
The gimbal ring design allows the compass to remain level regardless of angle of base.
Compass can be folded for easy transportation. compass measures 3" in diameter with 4" brass stand. This compasses are perfect decorative pieces with extremely fine and high quality finish. They can be used as home or office décor or for gifting as well.
