The Condition is EXCELLENT. The stock paper is thick and supple. (In many cases these prints become brittle. These are most certainly not brittle)
These are original
Chromo prints published for the Bureau of American Ethnology.
Labeled on the upper left hand margin is, " Bureau of American Ethnology",
On the top right is printed " Twenty-First Annual Report. PL--" On the
lower right hand margin is "Heliotype Co,. Boston".
The image
size is 5 1/4" x 8 1/2", Page size is 7 1/4" x 11". They have the even age
toning that you would expect and hope to find in a print of this age.
In 1899, these images were drawn and coloured by native Hopi artists,
chosen and commissioned by Jessie Walters Fewkes, the authority in Hopi
Indian affairs.
They were published in 1903 in the rarest and most
expensive of all the BAEs (because of the desirability of these prints).
I found these prints in an incomplete copy.
They have excellent colors, very bright and vivid. The
image is very sharp and clear, showing amazing detail of the dolls.
